Roam’s Spring Spa Treatment

We returned from the Bahamas in early May so that we could give Roam a good Spa Treatment before we headed north for the summer. The first stop was in Palm Beach to haul her out of the water for bottom paint and to repair some damage to the port stabilizer which occurred during the mooring incident in Warderick Wells (click here for details on that fiasco).

This was our maintenance list:

  • Bottom Paint
  • Repair Port Fin
  • Drop both stabilizer fins and replace seals
  • Install boom on starboard side for 2nd flopper stopper
  • Dinghy engine maintenance/TLC
  • Swap anchor chain end-for-end and remark in 25 ft sections
  • Crane Inspection
  • Repaint window frame on port salon windows
  • Wax hull and super-structure
  • Purchase & Install Watermaker
  • Remove and replace brushes on stern thruster motor
  • Clean carbon dust from lazarrete
  • Sand & varnish the cap rail
  • Repair the Scuba Compressor
  • Add panic button to security system with an external siren speaker
  • Replace the blower in the stack

There is always a list of things to do on a boat. When you get one thing fixed, 2 more things break. With that in mind, boat maintenance is constant, but manageable. And we try hard to not make cruising all about maintenance, so we do a little bit at a time and defer some items for a semi-annual Spa Treatment. That’s what this was. We didn’t get everything accomplished that we wanted, but we never do. And there will be another Spa Day for Roam in the fall…
