The Birth of a Butterfly

METAMORPHOSIS noun

meta·mor·pho·sis | \ ˌme-tə-ˈmȯr-fə-səs
biology a major change in the form or structure of some animals or insects that happens as the animal or insect becomes an adult

One of our favorite things to do in North East Harbor is to visit Thuya Gardens. Stepping through the gate and entering the garden is surreal experience. The garden splashes all around you, overwhelming your senses and forcing you to leave your thoughts and concerns behind, if just for the moment.

Interspersed among the flowers, the gardeners have planted milkweed, a favorite food of the Monarch butterfly. On one of our visits this summer, we were lucky enough to witness the “birth” of a beautiful Monarch butterfly. The photos below bear witness.
